An Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday dissolved the 15-year-old marriage between Nike Adenekan, a prophetess and her pastor husband, Adekunle Adenekan, over attempt to rape church member.
Nike filed a divorce suit before the court, seeking dissolution of her 15-year-old marriage to Adenekan, on grounds of telling lies, immoral acts and threat to life.
In his judgment, the court’s President, Chief Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage and gave custody of the only child of the union to the petitioner. Balogun restrained the defendant from further attending the petitioner’s church. He also ordered him to pay N3, 500 as monthly allowance for the maintenance of the child The petitioner alleged that her husband tried to rape an 18-year-old church member who lives with her.
Nike narrated how the defendant on three occasions, tried to rape one of her church member, who resides with her. “My lord, there was a night my husband left me in the bed and climbed on the girl who was sleeping on the floor.
“When I caught him, my husband said he wanted to kill mosquito on the girl’s body and pleaded with me to forgive him. “The girl also told me that my husband, on two occasions, attempted to rape her at night when I went to church for special prayers. “Also, a particular woman in my church told me that daddy(Adenekan) wanted her to be his concubine and threatened to stop coming to my church if daddy continues disturbing her. “He is in the habit of lying;
I never trusted him and cannot fold my hands watching him to destroy my church.“ Nike told the court. She pleaded with the court to grant her request for a divorce, saying she had made up her mind to end the union and that no one could convince her to change her mind. Responding, Adenekan, who claimed to be a pastor, however, pleaded with the court not to grant Nike’s request, saying she had suffered with him and still wants her as his wife.
Adenekan, who was silent on the allegation of attempted rape, prayed the court to assist him intervene in the matter.NAN)

Teenagers are not also left out as their tendencies to explore new things and prove to their parents and peers that they have come of age has landed many in hospitals for all the wrong reasons. As s’ex divert more teenagers from class rooms to maternity wards, unfaithful husbands and promiscuous wives have also brought home diseases from one night stands/ accidental quickies and destroyed their families.
At public health Nigeria, we have provided the list of the top 5 s’exually transmitted diseases based on published studies and how to avoid them.
1. GONORRHEA
Gonorrhea is the most prevalent s’exually transmitted disease (STD) in Nigeria. In fact, in 1963, WHO found Lagos to have the highest gonorrhea rate in the world? Recent surveys report gonorrhea prevalence to be as high as 28.1%. Some studies show a clear association between gonorrhea and male / female infertility. Penicillinase producing Neisseria gonorrhea prevalence varies from 44.4% in Zaria to 80% in Ibadan.
There are major several complications that arises in the event that a gonorrhea remains untreated, this could be related to the body tissues, reproductive capacity and deformities in new born.
2. HIV/AIDS
According to UNAIDS, The number of people living with HIV in Nigeria is between 2, 600 000 – 4, 500 000 more than double the population of some states. The prevalence rate of the disease among Adults aged 15 to 49 is 3.1%. HIV is a s’exually transmitted disease that has no cure currently.
Rivers, Taraba and Kaduna are the top three states with the highest level of HIVAIDS infection in Nigeria while Ekiti, Zamfara and Bauchi has the lowest rates. Globally more than 33 million people are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS has complicated the lives of millions in Nigeria, before the advent of free antiretroviral drugs many perished. In addition, due to the high rate of stigma many infected individuals are not taking advantage of the free anti-retroviral drugs and screening programs available. While many others who are infected, unknowingly infect their loved ones because they do not know they carry the virus.
3. Trichomonasis
The Federal Ministry of Health reported the National average prevalence rate of 9.8% for trichomoniasis. The condition is caused by the one-celled protozoan organism Trichomonas vaginalis which is transmitted during s’exual activity. It could also be spread by sharing intimacy gadgets or the used of intimacy gadgets that have been contaminated with the disease causing organism.
About 70 percent of people with trichomoniasis don’t experience any signs or symptoms. Having trichomoniasis can also cause genital inflammation that makes it easier to get infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, or to pass the HIV virus to a s’ex partner
4. Candidiasis
The Federal Ministry of Health reported the National average prevalence rate of 9.62% for Candidiasis. Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida.
There are over 20 species of Candida yeasts that can cause infection in humans, the most common of which is Candida albicans. Candida yeasts normally reside in the intestinal tract and can be found on mucous membranes and skin without causing infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to develop.
5. Syphilis
The incidence of syphilis has also gone up by 134% in men over the last five years. Syphilis. Syphilis is a highly contagious disease spread primarily by s’exual activity, including oral and anal s’ex.
Syphilis is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum and it is the only known s’exually transmitted disease to cause madness. Yes long-term infection with syphilis can cause brain damage and blindness. The disease can complicate the life of an individual in the long run if left untreated. A Nigerian pastor who impregnated a married woman while praying for her has landed in serious trouble after he was exposed in Akure.
A married woman identified as Mrs. Omotola Akerele, has narrated how her pastor, Mathew Olakunle, had s*x with her when she was undergoing spiritual healing in his church which later resulted in pregnancy.
According to Punch, the woman further revealed that Olakunle, who was the head of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Itura in Iju town, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, was allegedly fond of praying for women in the church without their clothes on.
Narrating the on a programme on Adaba FM Akure, the Ondo State, the 32-year-old woman said it was her mother, who is a member of the church that introduced her to the pastor when she was battling with a severe cough.
Omotola, who was an indigene of the town narrated that as a result of the s*x she had with the pastor, she got pregnant and later aborted the pregnancy without the consent of her husband.
She said, “I had a severe cough and my mother took me to Pastor Olakunle Mathew for prayer in Iju. After praying for me he said I needed a shaving stick and a handkerchief to perform the spiritual exercise which I took to him.
“The pastor told me that if he wanted to use my hair to perform some spiritual work that would solve my spiritual problem. On the night of that first day we got there, he asked me to put off my clothes in the presence of my mother to pray for me in the mission house.
“Since that day, he has been asking me to come for deliverance and when I got there he would ask me to remove my clothes and lie on the bed. He would lie on me un clad and be praying for me.
“On the seventh day, he shaved the hair of my pr!vate part and my armpit hair and put the hair in the white handkerchief. After that, we had s*xual intercourse and after the intercourse, he asked me to go and bury the hair in the handkerchief. ”
Omotola added that a month after the s*xual intercourse, she was pregnant and aborted it but her husband later got to know about it and sent her out of the house.
The pastor admitted praying for the women in the church unclad, saying God answered prayer faster while praying unclad. He explained that Omotola’s case was a spiritual attack and she agreed to undergo the spiritual exercise performed on her in the church.
Olakunle, who said he had been transferred by the C.A.C to another church in Ilorin, Kwara State, however, denied having s*xual intercourse with Omotola. He also denied impregnating her but he confessed to having had s*xual relationship with Omotola’s younger sister twice and had prayed for their mother too while being unclad.
He said, “On the third day of the spiritual programme, I shaved the hair on her pr!vate part and I touched it (her pr!vate part) with my man-hood and I told her to be using my man-hood to rob the entrance of her pr!vate part so that she would discharge.
“After that, I wiped the discharge of her pr!vate part with the white handkerchief and I prayed for her using psalm 24. After the exercise, I asked her to go and bury the handkerchief in the bush. I asked her to call her husband to do it for her but she refused, that was why I did it for her but I didn’t have s*x with her.”
